Indianola Baseball, Inc. is fortunate to have a concession stand that offers
a wide variety of food options for participants and
fans. Our concession stand also provides a steady
revenue source for Indianola Baseball. The concession
stand is successful largely because of the work of
Laurie Abernathy and her staff, along with the volunteer
work of Indianola baseball parents. For years Indianola
Baseball has relied on parents to work at the concession
on limited occasions each year. In recent years, however,
some parents simply declined to work creating a worker
shortfall. In an attempt to alleviate this problem,
the Board of Directors of Indianola Baseball implemented
an “opt-out” program beginning in the
2007 season. For an additional $15.00 in registration
fee, parents could opt-out of working at
the concession stand. The $15.00 fee was not meant
as a financial benefit to Indianola Baseball, but
rather was designed to pay for additional concession
stand workers to cover the anticipated shortage.
While popular with parents, the opt-out created
difficulties as some parents attempted to opt-out
throughout the season rather than at registration.
A small group of parents who had not opted-out claimed
they had and declined to work.
After some debate, the Board of Directors has elected
to keep the opt-out in place for the 2008 season.
However, all parents who wish to opt-out must do so
by no later than February 18, 2008,
the last day of registration. This is necessary for
our concession stand staff to adequately plan schedules
for the upcoming season. Those who do not opt-out
will be required to work at the concession stand on
nights when their child’s team is scheduled.
Those parents who do not opt-out should recognize
that the volunteer work they are performing at the
concession stand is a great benefit to Indianola Baseball.
The Board of Directors appreciates and thanks you
for your support.
